Launch of the Expertise and Examinations Committee

Description: Founded in 1955, the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists aspires to become THE collaborating organization for environmental engineers and scientist. To accomplish this strategic goal, the Academy is reforming the Development and Upgrading of Examination Committee (DUEC) to become the Expertise and Examinations Committee (E&EC). The purpose of the E&EC is to serve as a focal point for subject matter expertise, including individuals who have obtained Board Certification in one or more of 11 different specialties.

Invitation: All members of the Academy are invited to join this event where leaders will share a common vision, breakout groups of technical experts will brainstorm and identify criterial areas of sub-specialization.  A work plan will be outlined ahead of the next meeting of the E&EC.

• 12:30 pm, Kickoff by E&EC Chair, S. Rao Chitikela
• 12:35 pm, Activating Committees as part of the 2029 Strategic Plan by Academy President, Wendy Wert
• 12:40 pm, Summaries of a few current technical committees: Water Supply & Wastewater (WW), Environmental Chemistry (EC), Site Remediation (SR), and Industrial Hygiene (IH), by S. Rao Chitikela
• 12:55 pm, An Overview of the Arc of Professional Development from the Body of Knowledge for ABET, through the PE exam for NCEES, to Board Certification by Executive Director, Daniel B. Oerther
• 1:00 pm, Instructions and Zoom breakout rooms - identify a reporter, discuss existing subspecialties (include, modify, drop) and brainstorm additional subspecialties, input names for primary, secondary, and tertiary expertise (primary - subject matter expert; secondary - interprofessional teaming; tertiary - professional networking)
• 1:30 pm, Breakout room reporters briefly share highlights
• 1:55 pm, Next steps ahead of July 11, 2024 E&EC meeting and thanks by E&EC Chair, S. Rao Chitikela
• 2:00 pm, Conclude
