Stanley E. Kappe Award
The Stanley E. Kappe Award honors the man whose dedicated leadership, strong devotion, and tireless efforts contributed so much to the growth and advancement of AAEES during the period he served as its Executive Director, 1971 to 1981.
This Award is presented to the Board Certified Environmental Engineer or Board Certified Environmental Scientist who has performed extraordinary and outstanding service contributory to significant advancement of public awareness to the betterment of the total environment and other objectives to the Academy.
2025 Stanley E. Kappe Award Recipient
Lisa Woodward, P.E., BCEE
Lisa Woodward is a board-certified environmental engineer with over 30 years of experience specializing in planning, design, and permitting of environmental projects across Colorado. Her expertise spans hazardous waste management, air permitting, underground storage tanks, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance for facilities ranging from military bases to Department of Energy properties. She is a licensed professional engineer in Environmental Engineering in Colorado and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Colorado.
Throughout her distinguished career, Lisa has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the engineering profession and beyond. She served as Committee Chair for the Recertification Committee for the Academy for over 10 years, ensuring the rigorous professional standards of board-certified engineers. A dedicated leader within the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), she has held multiple executive roles, including president and long-term vice president of the Rocky Mountain Section.
Lisa's outstanding contributions have been recognized through numerous accolades, including the 2024 Women in Mines Leadership Award and the SWE 2024 Distinguished Engineer Award. The latter honors her professional excellence in engineering, engineering education, SWE leadership, and her service to professional organizations and the community.
In addition to her technical achievements, Lisa is a passionate educator and mentor. She currently serves as an adjunct instructor at the Colorado School of Mines, guiding senior design projects and inspiring the next generation of engineers. Recently appointed to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Board, she continues to actively support her community and profession.
Lisa is celebrated for her unwavering commitment to advancing engineering through leadership, education, mentorship, and advocacy. Her work exemplifies the values of technical expertise, innovation, and service to others.
