About AAEES

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists® is a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) organization serving the Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science professions by providing Board Certification to those who qualify through experience and testing. The Academy also provides training through workshops and seminars, participates in accrediting universities, publishes a periodical and other reference material, interacts with students and young professionals, sponsors a university lecture series, and rewards outstanding achievements through its international awards program.

Mission

The Mission of the Academy is to:
Promote continual improvement in environmental engineering and science education and practice.

Objectives

The Objectives of the Academy are to support the Mission by:

1. Ensuring the quality of and creating pathways for future EES professionals.
2. Providing continuing education for all EES professionals.
3. Certifying advanced professionals; providing public recognition of outstanding individuals and practices.
4. Harnessing the technical expertise of our members to advise decision-makers and the public on the use of EES to improve and maintain the environment.

On September 17, 1973, the Articles of Incorporation of the original Corporation were amended under the laws of the State of Delaware at which time the "Environmental Engineering Intersociety Board" and the "American Academy of Environmental Engineers" were merged into one organization under the name of the "American Academy of Environmental Engineers" (AAEE)®.

On December 10, 2012, the Articles of Incorporation of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers were amended under the laws of the State of Delaware, and on January 1, 2013, the American Academy of Environmental Engineers changed its name to the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES).

The Academy is a not-for-profit corporation, and no Trustee may receive compensation for service.

As now constituted, the Board of Trustees is composed of: one member nominated by each of the sponsoring societies, the Academy President, President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, and latest living Past President. In addition, there are six Trustees-at-Large.
