Webinar Summary

This webinar will focus on exploring the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in the water and wastewater sector. This session will delve into the integration of data-driven models with traditional mechanistic approaches, highlighting how AI/ML can enhance predictive capabilities and operational efficiency. Attendees will be introduced to cutting-edge digital tools and platforms that facilitate the adoption of AI/ML solutions in water management. The webinar will also showcase real-world case studies from Black & Veatch, demonstrating successful applications of AI/ML in optimizing water infrastructure and treatment processes.

Webinar Speaker Profile

With a background in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Aryan Emaminejad, Ph.D. has cultivated a comprehensive skillset tailored to the wastewater treatment sector. His expertise lies in process engineering and design, with practical experience in utilizing advanced wastewater modeling platforms such as GPS-X and Sumo.

During his doctoral research, Dr. Emaminejad focused on the application of Bio-Electrochemical Sensors (BESs) for real-time, plant-wide carbon monitoring in water resource recovery facilities. This work involved the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to interpret BES signals, improving the prediction and tracking of carbon metabolism and uptake in wastewater treatment systems.

To complement this research, Dr. Emaminejad earned the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate, gaining hands-on experience in web scraping, data wrangling, exploratory data analysis, and dashboard development using Plotly and Dash. The certification also enhanced his proficiency in relational databases (SQL) and a broad range of ML techniques, including supervised and unsupervised algorithms, time-series forecasting, and advanced learning methods such as artificial neural networks (ANNs) and tree ensemble models. He is skilled in applying widely used Python libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, Keras, TensorFlow, Seaborn, and Matplotlib to implement these techniques effectively.

In addition, Dr. Emaminejad holds the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) certification, which demonstrates a solid understanding of cloud computing concepts and the Azure architecture. This credential highlights his knowledge of core Azure services, security, compliance, management, and cost optimization strategies within the Azure ecosystem.

Driven by a passion for data science and predictive AI, Dr. Emaminejad is dedicated to advancing the integration of AI and ML into environmental engineering—particularly within the domains of water and wastewater treatment. His distinctive combination of engineering knowledge, research experience, and industry-recognized certifications positions him to make meaningful contributions to the development of sustainable and intelligent environmental solutions.
