Webinar Summary

The U.S. National Park Service operates 430 areas covering more than 85 million acres in every state and territory, operating on a budget of nearly $3 billion annually. Most of the parks haven’t been upgraded since being built.

To improve operations and maintenance, park officials have begun to introduce controls and communications planning and equipment in many of its far-flung, remote assets. Stanley Consultants designed controls for various park systems, such as communications, water treatment, stormwater and freshwater management at the Everglades, Curecanti, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon and Glacier national parks and recreation areas. Designers weighed the desire for central commands and controls with operational realities of remote staff wanting to retain local control in remote areas. The new systems at a minimum will provide remote access monitoring across long distances and leave the door open for more controls later.
